Website changelog and patch info
Changelog
I'll try to mention here changes that are made to the website code or database.
1 Dec 2008 (Bariloche, Argentina): Yet another version of manage_blocked - problem with the users table "access" field, which seems to have changed its use over time. Now we don't refer to it.
23 Nov 2008 (Tucuman, Argentina): Put in yet another version of the manage_blocked module, since it was in fact not sending out reminder messages.
17 Nov 2008: Changed a few tables from the InnoDB to the MyISAM engine type. This helps backups to work correctly, hopefully. Installed and enabled pathauto and token modules so we can have named user URLs.
9 Nov 2008: Installed and activated a new version of the manage_blocked module, which sends emails to blocked users to pester them into replying. The previous one seemed to have some problems, so had been disabled.
8 Nov 2008: Updated provinces for Armenia and Slovenia. Saved as normal into text files. Documented how to do this stuff.
8 Nov 2008 (San Lorenzo, Argentina): Several changes to the user_location module affecting geocoding. Changes in Google geocoding where failing with new codes provided by Google, so added the new codes. Also people who got a new password were blanking out their location info. Fixed that bug. Also, made it so that if there is no change to location info, the location geocoding doesn't happen.
25 Oct 2008 (La Quiaca, Argentina): 2 bugs: First, there was an error keeping the member_list function from working. Second, the geocoding of addresses using GEONAMES was sometimes failing, saying that it had a successful lookup but returning lat/lon of 0. This may have been caused by the move to php5. I went in and tried to re-geocode all members affected by this.
20 Oct 2008 (La Paz, Bolivia): Changed WS to use PHP5 (5.2.6) instead of PHP4.
7 October 2008: Updated codebase to Drupal 5.10 after applying the comment patch listed at the bottom of this page. Updated CCK to cck-5.x-1.9.tar.gz. Turned off Simplenews module since I'm not really using it any more. Updated update_status to update_status-5.x-2.3.tar.gz, user_status to user_status-5.x-1.2.tar.gz, inactive_user to inactive_user-5.x-1.4.tar.gz, nodewords to nodewords-5.x-1.12.tar.gz, user_delete to user_delete-5.x-1.0.tar.gz, browscap to browscap-5.x-1.0.tar.gz. Checked config changes on these.
7 October 2008 (Ilave, Peru): Set 616 members to "stale" based on the fact that they hadn't logged in since 27 Sept 2007. These members no longer show up in searches or on the map, but can simply log in to reactivate their membership.
24 Sept 2008 (Cuzco, Peru): Change the report for phplist bouncing users so that it only shows users not already marked as unreachable. Updated the report for duplicate users because it was showing many bogus matches. It was searching on province only, not on country.
8 September 2008 (Huancayo, Peru): Added Brussels, Capital Region to the list of provinces in Belgium. Updated the text version and also the user_locations table in the database.
14 July 2008 (San Ignacio, Peru): Fixed a piece of code that didn't allow translation of a piece of text. Added "translations" in the user profile and picture upload sections that clarified that we want full names and real pictures.
25 June 2008: Found that user pictures were not able to upload due to a permissions problem in the files/pictures directory. I changed the permissions and set the user and group on all the pictures. It seems to fix it.
13 June 2008: Moved site to a new (dedicated) server. There are some changes in configuration that could cause some issues.
4 May 2008: Added the "view email addrs" permission level, and a role for it, so that people with it can get the raw email address
22 Apr 2008: Turned off the manage_blocked module because spurious requests were going out. It also may have let me delete some legitimate users.
20 Apr 2008: Added the username and an email link to the "Recently viewed members" feature.
16 Apr 2008: Made the map not show the email addresses. I had mistaken left the email address there.
9 Apr 2008: Changed the "Newest users" block to show how many are available for hosting. Also made it be a cached block.
8 Apr 2008:
- Changed to not show email addresses on the site. People use the contact form to send an email
- Updated CSS style for views to vertical-align: top
- Changed member recommendation to automatically use a useful title, including the recommended member's name.
- Rebuilt the node access permissions because they seem to have been destroyed by turning off the acl module. I don't understand this exactly, though. However, the new member recommendations were not accessible to normal users.
- Turned off the setting of the contact form on the user profile edit page.
7 Apr 2008: Changed to use the "Contact form" on the contact page.
6 Apr 2008:
- Added ability to use HTML in the "About me" section of the profile. (It also does linebreaking now)
- Added "Recommended members" feature to profile so that members can recommend each other. This involved installing several new modules: auto_nodetitle, cck, views, computed_field, prepopulate.
- Fixed a bug where "My blog" showed funky html on teh profile page. Probably only affected user 1.
- Updated to Drupal 5.7
- Turned off the ACL module
- Updated the out-of-date nodewords module
4 Apr 2008:
- Added the ability to overlay the Adventure Cycling routes on the map
- Changed the "stalest accounts" report to show members who are not yet marked as stale, but whose accounts are getting stale. It now only shows active users.
- Added "Recently viewed members" feature that shows members whose profiles have recently been viewed
- Changed maps to default to "Terrain" view and to have an overlay map by default in the lower right corner.
28 Mar 2008: Fixed a bug in the Misc admin section of the adminsupport module. When you did an update of the "last-login" field it updated only the login field and not the access field, which the inactive user pesterer was using. It also had a mistake in the message, saying that it was updating the created field.
17 Mar 2008: Fixed a bug in the custom manage_blocked module that pesters users who have signed up but not finished the correspondence with Roger. The cron job was not sending out the message due to a combination with an earlier bugfix.
28 Dec 2007: Moved site to new hosting at site5.com.
25 Dec 2007: Removed the "Find members" and "Find content" menu entries and went back to the tabbed "Find" menu entry.
24 Dec 2007: Marked 822 members as "stale" since we haven't had a response or a login from them even after a special November mailing. They will no longer show up in normal searches, lists, or the map, although they can activate their membership by logging in. Also turned on the inactive_user feature that will send a note to people who haven't logged in for a year requesting them to log in and update their accounts.
16 Dec 2007: New version of SMTP module to try to solve random mail sending failures. (Yesterday added Yemen to the default countries list.)
13 Dec 2007: Changed the user profile code so it doesn't show the mis-formatted newsletter signup section at the bottom. Changed the outgoing mail server to a private server to try to avoid problems with shared mail servers.
10 Dec 2007: Changed the database to make the "full name", "Distance to motel", "bikeshop", and "campground" fields much longer. They truncated some user input.
9 Dec 2007: Updated to Drupal 5.5 (security release). Updated ACL module as well.
8 Dec 2007: Re-did the front page pictures so that they're a little fancier. To do this, changed the theme's style.css.
6 Dec 2007: Installed new version of the notify module which does batching of notify messages so we don't exceed the hosting company's limit of 200 messages per hour.
4 Dec 2007: Bug in sorting the "List members on one page" was resolved. Now these reports sort correctly by province and city. The spreadsheet download was unaffected by the bug.
Patches
- 8 Apr 2008 Drupal 5.7 - added a patch to the contact module contact_allow_all_to_use.patch to allow all users to use the contact.
