Has anyone recently crossed Mauritania?

I am planning to cross Mauritania coming from Western Sahara going towards Senegal. Recent situation regarding Al-Qaeda killing a French man and taking two Spanish aid workers as hostage is quite unsettling. Just wondering if anyone has crossed Mauritania recently and can give me some updates.
