Help needed in Istanbul
Hi,
we are currently travelling through Serbia by train, heading to Istanbul. On the train ride our bicycles (custom made, brand new, stored in 2 huge boxes among other stuff) got stolen, most likely from train employees. The boxes where secure locked in an extra cabin, we where the only passengers.
We filed a complain with the local police. They are neither willing to help or do putt any effort in to get our stuff back.
Now we are hoping to get somehow new bicycles in Istanbul. Does anyone know a good bike shop in Istanbul? Is there a market for used ones? Any suggestions will help….Any hope too, since we just started our bicycle trip around the world…all this happened on day 2…
Peace
Patrick and Peggy

bike shops in Istanbul
sorry I cannot remember the names of the shops, but they have good quality things.
first of all, do not miss to
first of all, do not miss to visit this shop:
http://www.pedalbisiklet.com/
the adress is:
Mimar Kemalettin Cad. No. 29
Sirkeci / ISTANBUL / Türkiye
Tel: 0212- 511 06 54
the owner, bulent birson is very experienced about serving cyclo tourists. you can find any kind of touring specific equipment from there. maybe even he would have some 2nd hand models in stock.
and the other shops are:
www.trek-turkey.com (in ortakoy, european side)
www.kackarbisiklet.com (shops in ortakoy- european and kadikoy - asian side)
www.deltabisiklet.com (shops in ortakoy and kadikoy)
www.velespit.com (kadikoy - asian side)
www.yesilbisiklet.com (kadikoy - asian side)
bike shops in Istanbul
Try in Kadikoy, near the football stadium. There is one right across from the stadium and also another one or two blocks away, as well as a nice outdoors store.
You have to go in ferry to kadikoy, but the stadium is only 15 minutes walking.
good luck!
Thanks Reinhard.
Thanks Reinhard.
hey what a start huh?
hey what a start huh? ;)
let's hope that this would be all the bad luck on your trip, piled together and now all gone. from now on, joy and "touring high" shall be all that you are going through.
anyway, go to
http://www.trek-turkey.com/
and check for their 7.3 fx model.
that's a decent touring-city bike with 28" tires for 590 euros. some crankset change (for a smaller 22-32-44 mountain bike type one), some robust touring racks rear and (if needed) front (there are also braze ons for a front rack), fenders and some additional bar ends would make it a dedicated touring bike.
you can check them on the trek showroom on the following adress:
Dereboyu C. 84/A Ortakoy
Ortaköy, İstanbul
Telefon: 0212 227 10 15
there's not such a big 2. hand market of bikes here, especially touring bikes. so this seems as the fastest -even if not the cheapest- solution to me.
all the best of luck to you with your journey.
hi Cadimaki, thanks for your
hi Cadimaki,
thanks for your advise. We checked it today- unfortunately nothing for us...After checking a lot of bike stores today we don´t think to find something we need here. Really sad... We might have to fly home..
