I try to log in, but it still says I'm not logged in
This is where you log in, and don't get any error message, but it still says you're not logged in.
How to know if you have this problem: Go to http://www.warmshowers.org/user and enter your username and password. If you get "Access denied. You may need to login below or register to access this page." and do not get "Sorry, unrecognized username or password. Have you forgotten your password?" then this is you. If you get the "Sorry, unrecognized password" it means you have a problem with your username/email or password and this is not your problem.
The problem is usually "cookies" being turned off or not working. To log into the site you must allow "cookies". These are not a threat to you and are required by most internet sites to work correctly. Sometimes you'll need to delete all cookies to get things working. As a last resort try clearing the cache.
Below are instructions for performing these operations in the popular web browsers Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Google Chrome.
- Internet Explorer 8
- To allow cookies in Internet Explorer choose Tools->Internet Options. Under the "Privacy" tab set the Internet zone to anything less than "High" and click "OK".
- Alternatively you can click "sites" in the same dialog box and allow cookies for "warmshowers.org"
- To delete all cookies choose Tools->Internet Options. Under the "General" tab click the "Delete..." button. Select "Cookies" and click "Delete".
- To clear the cache choose Tools->Internet Options. Under the "General" tab click the "Delete..." button. Select "Temporary Internet files" and click "Delete".
- Firefox 3.6
- To allow cookies in Firefox choose Tools->Options (or Edit->Preferences on some platforms). Under the "Privacy" tab select "Accept cookies from sites" and click "OK".
- To delete all cookies choose Tools->Clear Recent History. Then select "cookies" and click "Clear now".
- To clear the cache choose Tools->Clear Recent History. Then select "cache" and click "Clear now".
- Chrome 5.0
- To allow cookies in Chrome choose Tools->Options. In the "Under the Hood" tab click the "Content settings..." button under the Privacy heading. Under the "Cookies" tab select "Allow local data to be set" in response to "Modify how cookies and other site data are saved on your computer" and click "Close".
- To delete all cookies choose Tools->Options. In the "Under the Hood" tab click the "Clear browsing data" button. Select "Delete cookies and other site data" and click "Clear browsing data".
- To clear the cache choose Tools->Options. In the "Under the Hood" tab click the "Clear browsing data" button. Select "Empty the cache" and click "Clear browsing data".
Sometimes your web browser's configuration may seem all messed up and you would like to return to the default settings. This can be done but you should proceed carefully because you may lose your designated homepage, passwords, add-ons, and more. Here are links to articles that tell you how to restore the default settings and which settings are affected.

If you can't install Firefox because you don't have permissions on the computer, try Firefox Portable Edition, which doesn't require any installation.
Any program that blocks cookies will cause this problem. For example, CA Security Center may block cookies in all programs. Try temporarily disabling your firewall and virus protection to see if they're the problem.
