I need to spend 2 winter months in California...why not WOOFing?

Touring Notes - Your tours, planned tours, looking for riders

Hi everyone,

Let me explain a little my project first, so I can ask my question...

I am a French student in Montréal, Québec, Canada. 2 months from now I will have graduated and will be on the road for a long loop around North America. If everything goes as planned, I should be in California in January 2011, going north on the ACA Pacific Coast route, up to Vancouver. You can now guess my problem: I do not want to try and ride Washington, Oregon, British Columbia and Alberta in Winter.

That's why I am looking for something to do in California during two months, starting around January 15th 2011. As I should have a tourist visa (if the US immigration agrees to give it to me next time I ask.....), I can not officially work.

I have heard about WOOFing, and it seems to be a great solution to my problem. So I was wondering: are there any WOOF hosts who live in California, are registered to Warmshowers, read this message, and need an extra pair of arms and legs next Winter?

Remi..You could try Caretakers Gazette. There is a fee, but you can find people in that area that would give you a place to stay to feed the animals, watch the cat, housesit, do chores etc etc.

We are in Tennessee and we are looking for a helper to help with some home remodeling chores. We have advertised in Caretaker Gazette but have not found a match yet. Good luck. Tom and Joan

You should sign up at WWOOF and email a few hosts in the california region, there is a fee for the membership. I started also using helpx.com, which is pretty much the same thing, it also has a fee.

Either way, both sources will give you a few options for finding something to do for 2 months.
