G'Day
When your doing your planning for the Nullarbor pay close attention to the wind direction at the time of year you will be riding, it can make a huge difference (www.bom.gov.au).
Most of the roads in the Flinders Ranges are dirt/gravel so mountain bikes or hybrids would be best.
If you visit all the places you have mentioned it will be a VERY long trip, but then you have 3 months, so it would be possible...just depends how much time you want to spend sight seeing.
Be prepared for bike shops to be a long way apart. Smaller towns may have commonly stocked tyre sizes in a hardware, but most bicycle parts will only be available in larger towns or cities.
Learn about our snakes & spiders before hand & carry a good 1st aid kit.
Remember that although all of Australia if fairly dry - South Australia is the driest state of the driest inhabited continent on earth - you will need to be able to carry lots of water...!! and water is heavy.
Sounds like a great trip, feel free to contact us.
Cheers

Thank You for your reply. We will certainly take your good advice in concideration, especialy concerning the snakes and spiders, because where we live there are none of them at all.
For the wind however we must count on our good fortune and hope for the best, however iff necessairy we might use public transport to get back on scedule again, but only when realy needed. When we are in your neightbarhood or have a specific question we will try to contact You for sure.

flinders ranges mawson trail
Hi there, we are from adelaide, but currently on our own biketrip, so unfortunately won´t be able to host you. We cycled the Mawson trail 4 years ago, a 1000 km ride mostly on dirt (but not too rough, except for in the rainy season). It is to date one of my favorite rides ever. It starts or ends in Adelaide and runs through the Barossa wine area to Blinman. We rode it end of september, start of october.
You can get maps for the ride at the bike SA office in Adelaide, or via the mapstore on Peel street.
Enjoy australia!
cheers

My wife and I rode most of this trip in 2003. We have a website which lists our camping spots (with GPS details).
It is,
http://home.vicnet.net.au/~cycleoz/
It can be very hot in November/December on the Nullarbor and in the Flinders Ranges with temperatures in the high 30's to 40 degrees
Happy Riding

I visited your website and find it quite overwelming. The trips you made are the ones one only can dream of.There is indeed a lot of information that helps us for the preparation of our ride and we will certainly use as much as possible of it.What sticks to my mind is that you had so many spokes broken even on reasenable good roads.Did you carry to mutch weight(water?)Myself I am entend to bring a Bob to lower the pressure on the backwheel and especialy to be able to carry the extra amount of water through the Nullarbor.Iff we ride the Great Ocean road we will not be able to visit you but we will try to contact you anyway. Our goal is Beechworth-Victoria and the last part depends on the time remaining.
Many thanks for your reply,it's been very helpfull.
Kind regards

Hi Greta and Jos
The problem with the spokes was due to my weight (abt 96kg) plus the water. Rae, much lighter had no problem. We now have the rear wheels re-spoked with DT triple butted spokes and have no further problems. You will need to carry enough water for two days on some sections of the Nullabor. Water is available at all the roadhouses, I think they now all have desalination units. It is advisable to make a small purchase before asking for water. Otherwise it is available for purchase in retail bottles. As a last resort you can ask a caravanner for water. The road quality is very good, there are no unsealed sections. No need to reduce tyre pressure.
Good Luck, Len & Rae
