I chose to ride through Big Bend state and national park, so I missed meeting Liz...and seeing Alpine, both of which I'd heard so many wonderful things about. I did get the good fortune to stay in Liz's place in Sanderson, as tiny a house as it could be and still be a real house. And it couldn't have been more lovely inside...very Santa Fe. I say lucky to stay because it was reserved for a round-the-world cyclist on the night I came through with my cycling partner. Astrid was happy to share the space with us. I slept in the kitchen on my pad and could touch both walls with outstretched hands. It was just the best night...because of the warm, cozy little house stuffed with bikes that we had all to ourselves and because of the stories Astrid shared and because of the pizza from the local woman who bakes and delivers on Friday night (ask the policeman on patrol for the phone number to order). I will remember this place always. I loved the cactus decorated with white Xmas lights.
