Transport from LA to SF, CA, by bus/train etc. with bike, ca. April 25-2010.

Hello,
I wonder if someone can give me a tip on how to transport myself and my bike (without riding) from LA to SF around April 25?
Can I take a bus, a train or hitch hike?
Thanks in advance//M.

Amtrak, Bus
I've heard that Amtrak is friendly to bikes on that route. It seems I heard you could even do it without putting the bike in a box. http://amtrak.com.
Greyhound generally requires you to put the bike in a box, but I'm sure that would work if you're willing to pack up the bike. http://greyhound.com
And of course you could fly, but I think all the airlines will charge about $100 for the bike (boxed, of course)
Craigslist Rideshare
There have been many rides from L.A. to S.F. offered on Craigslist:

You will be expected to help pay for gas.
Amtrak
I am doing the exact same thing and have found great deals with AMTRAK on tickets ($60). They say that they have room on some of the cars to hold bikes and a couple other places but to make a reservation in advance. Hope you make it alright!
