Riding in Venezuela
I have ridden around Maracay and I am familiar with the roads from Maracay to Merida. I don't even know what the road from Puerto La Cruz to Guira. So my opinion here is about riding in Venezuela in general. We had fun and it was really easy. though in some spots even the smaller roads looked like 4 lane highways. Drivers were generally careful. Food was easy to get (empanadas were our most common snack food and Malta to drink) People were super nice and very helpful. My American wife was at times the center of attention in little villages (she speaks fluent Spanish) oh yeah it is HOT (except for a few spots like up in the andes) so make sure you hydrate well. ride early in the morning. I did feel unsafe in Caracas (though not anymore than any major city anywhere in Latinoamerica) but not so in the rest of the country. Around Aragua Merida and El Tachira I met other riders and a handful of racers. Shops might be scarce, and even those shops might not have more than essentials. Any questions let me know.
