Hi Folks,
France Bordelau inspired me to ask for a destination. I am looking for a destination as well. January-April 2014 I biked 3000 kms in New Zealand. It was more than awesome!! Wonderful people, I felt myself very safe between them. Clean and well equiped campings, great nature! Not a very good bike infrastructure but I liked it despite. I am looking for another country where I can bike for 3 months from January-April 2015 in summer. So it has to be in the Southern part of the world. I like a country that is safe for a lonely biker, and that has a safe political situation. If you can speak English in that country that might be handy but not neccessary. Do you have a great idea? Or do you have experiences? I like to read them! Ans

Hoi Ans,
Hartelijke groet,
Ans
Ja hoor, contacteer me later maar.
Geniet nu van onze zomer...
Peter
I recommend Australia. In January when its very hot on the mainland, cycle around Tasmania, a beautiful part of Australia. Then take the ferry across to Melbourne and ride along the coast to Brisbane. You'll love the beaches all the way to Brisbane. Camping will be pleasant in the heat of Summer. The sea breezes you get on the coast will moderate the higher temperatures you would receive inland.
Hi Joe, thanks a lot for your message. We are very interested in a bike trip in Australia. In 2014 we biked from January till April in New Zealand. We loved that enormously!! We have high expectations of Australia as well.
Can you recommand bike guides from the east coast of Australia?
Was in Febr./March 2times in Morocco. Nice people, mostly helpful and a really spectacular landscape. Don`t know if this country works for 3 months. People CAN be irritating. On the other side in emergency the help what they can do. Be self confident and try this country.
I have an old guide to Tasmania which has routes and gradients. It is so old that the rest of the information would be out of date. I'd be prepared to lend that to you. I also own a guide to a route between Sydney and Brisbane, called the Pacific Bicycle Route. That book, too, is old but the roads and gradients would still be quite accurate. I have lent that to another international rider but he should be returning it soon. I will have another look at what is at home when I get back and see if I have anything for Melbourne to Sydney.
Australia is an expensive country to travel in so I'd recommend camping, as well as Warm Showers, of course. Because of our sparse population Australia doesn't have many bicycle paths between towns, but busy roads have shoulders and the secondary country roads are quiet in terms of traffic volume.
Hi Joe, thanks a lot for your great offer to lend us your bike guide. In a few weeks we will meet a Dutch couple that biked the Australian East coast last year. They also talked about the Pacific Bicycle Route. They said to have a GPS route of it. We realy love to get into contact with you again after meeting them.
Good advice to camp. We did that in New Zealand as well often on their lovable Top 10 campings. In Europe we used WS adresses and adresses of other free or very cheap bikers organisations. In Australia we will do that again. We have high expectations of meeting people in your country!
So note my name for the day you'll bike in ( bikers paradise) the Netherlands.

At that time of year, SE Asia (Thailand, Laos etc.) would be great. It is the dry season. Very cheap place to cycle tour and very safe.
Hi Matthew, thanks a lot for your suggestion to bike in Laos and Cambodja. We have got several tips now. Even from people in our country. So we first will make a study of possibilities in East Australia. The coastline streches at about 5000 kilometers. That might be enough for us. If we decide not to take this country, you might get another message to ask you for more details of your suggestion. Thanks a lot and wish you all the best in your country that we like very much too!
