We are planning to ride our touring bikes from Barcelona to San Sebastián and would like advice about the best route to take. We prefer minor roads with less car traffic and need to ride town to town to stay with Warm Showers hosts or small hotels/hostels. We arrive in Barcelona 17th Aug. thanks for any advice.

Best route Barcelona to San Sebastián
Three years ago I rode this way. I didn't dare through the Pyrenees, but still there are some nice spots along. There's a St. James way from Barcelona. Although badly signalised, you will find accomodation and quiet dirt roads. I definitely recommend Montserrat and Cervera in Catalunya. In Aragón, you have the beautiful castle in Loarre, los Mallos de Riglos, La Peña dam and the very quiet road from Bailo to Sangüesa. Already in Navarra, you should go to la Foz de Lumbier and, after Pamplona, in Lekunberri you can take the long via verde to Andoain. You'll be almost in Donostia, by then.
