Cycling Argentina, Lake District and Tierra del Fuego

so you start in ushuaia. all along the way in argentine, i recommande you the hostelling international, the blue house sign, http://www.hostelsofargentina.com/, confortable and they speak english. in Chile go in little lodges, it is cheaper than camping, or make free camping.
the first step is easy, for 3 days. then it is Chile her ethe way but from the north, you have to read from the end
Viniendo de Argentina de Esperanza – Tapi Aike – Estancia Don Guillermo – Cerro Castillo – Parque Torres del Paine – Pehoe – Administracion – Milodon – Puerto Natales – Villa Tehuelches – Punta Arena;
Punta Arena – Porvenir – Onaisin – San Sebastian – Frontera;
it is very windly, till Porvenir. then it is ok till puerto natales. you have no reason to go till the short of Magellan and Rio Gallegos, this way is too very windly, and rio gallegos is noting but sad.

Puerto natales if you are lucky you have sun and run to visit the park torrres del paine, by bike and on foot. from ther or you take the boat straight to puerto montt, and you miss calafate, or there is a little pass to argentine, in Cerro Castillo, til la hacienda Don guillermo.

then again argentina, 3 days till calafate. i recommand you to let the bikes in calafate and to go till the glaciar by agency.

then you can continue 3 days more till el chalten, but only to visit the park on foot and if you want to take the carretera austral.

from puerto montt you haveto join or bariloche through the north pass, passing by entrelagos,
Osorno – Puerto Octay – Ensenada – Petrohue – Cochamo – Puelche – Puerto Montt

or trevelin through the carretera austral and Futalefu, in that case better stop the boat in puerto Aisen
Futalefu – Puyuhuapi – Cisnes – Puerto Aisen

or you can take a bus, the route 40 one is straight, till Esquel, or quicker a plane to Bariloche. from there you visit the lake district
la angustura – san carlos de bariloche con rodeos al circuito chico y a la estacion de ski y volcan tronador y lagunas cerquita – el bolson – epuyen – Trevelin por el ripio - Esquel.

well sometimes you will have to make a special tour to visit a lake and go back on the main road, like el bolson and bariloche.

from esquel you can follow by the trail (ripio) the rio chubbut till las plumas beautiful but very lonely, and then finish till puerto madryn en bus. Peninsula valdes and the pinguins better go by agency, nothing there.

to take a bus you have to tell in advance that you have a bike, then if it is a long treap, you will have to put of the wheels and pack it in a plastic and pay a special ticket, about 5$ for the bike. take care if they are full the bus driver refuse it.
bus prices should be 50$ for 1000 km. but prices climb very quick there.

for the food very hard to be vegetarian in the steak country. potatoes pasta and pizzas every where anyway, and in cities vegetables but expensive. milk and expensive cheese too.
