Hi,
My wife and I will be touring Canada from Toronto at the beginning of June. We'll arrive at the Toronto airport at 1 am on a Monday and our options to get to downtown seem to be paying for a cab or transfer, which can go as high as CND$ 120, or sleeping at the airport until about 5 am, mounting our bikes and riding to the nearby subway station or straight to downtown.
Is that it or does someone know any other (bike-friendly) ways? We'll be staying with friends, so arriving late at their place (like at 3 am) is not a problem.
Thanks and tchau!
When I arrived there in April 2013 there was a bus with bike racks that went from the airport to the subway. You have to take the panniers off though. It was a long time ago, but I remember not everywhere there was an elevator at that time (somebody said they forgot to build it), so I had to carry all my stuff over stairs, local people were very helpful and helping me along, since I not only carried cycle touring gear but also a suitcase for a 1+ year stay. There was an elevator where I got off in downtown Toronto.
Hi, Frank,
Thanks for the reply! I think the bus stops running at midnight or so, but I'll re-check.
Tchau!
Hi Frank,
You can also take the UP express, which is an express train from the airport to downtown. It costs $12. I think they start running at around 5 am and bikes are allowed on during off-peak hours. you can find more info here: https://www.upexpress.com/Home/Index
Happy travels!
