Best route through Germany and Denmark?

Hello fellow cyclists,

This summer I'm going from Poland to Norway and I need to plan the section from eastern border of Germany to northern Denmark.

I think I will enter Germany somewhere between Cottbus and Frankfurt (Oder) and would like to enter Denmark around Flensburg, to continue north to Hirtshals.

I'm mostly interested in paths avoiding heavy traffic, with possibility to camp in tent, etc. I do not plan extensive sightseeing, as this time it will be mainly a transit section for me, but having interesing options alongside is always welcome.

Are there any long distance bicycle routes along that direction?

Could you suggest me best websites to check?

Any help is appreciated.

Thank you in advance,

Adam

Hi Adam

Hi Adam

Have you ever found the website: www.gpsies.com ?

It´s for free and almost without any reklama

You just have to register /create an account and you´ll be ready for take-off

You can choose between different kind of maps as background (guugle-maps, OSM, Sigma, HikeBike, ...) and just one klick at 'show waymarked cycles' and you get an offer exactly to your question.

kind regards, enjoy the plannings

Get to the elbe, follow to

The elbe river has a marked bike only path(s) all the way to hamburg. There are several marked routes from the berlin area to the elbe. There must be some routes from the polish border to berlin. Germany is stuffed full of bike paths.

There is a marked route from berlin through the Mecklenburger Seen (very beautiful area, nice route) to the coast, and one all the way to denmark on the coast.  Find these routes and more on that map (link below) by choosing cycling under leisure and recreation then click on the bike icons here and there, to see the routes and read about them.

The elbe is ok, but I'd take the lakes.
Email me if you want more help.

Thank you all for feedback.

Thank you all for feedback.

The Elbe route seems to follow my planned direction closer than the route through the lakes and seaside, however scenery is also an important factor for me.

I need to learn more about these regions and check how much longer the distance would be before I decide.

Berlin - Copenhague cycling route

Dear Adam,

last year in July we have been cycling from Berlin to Copenhagen and followed the itinerary you will find on the site named here under. Very well indicated and no traffic on 95% of the itinerary. Lake region was very beautiful. Wish you fun and succès during your trip.

Thank you for the link - the webpage looks very informative, with GPS tracks etc.

After reading about the region, I'm considering going through Berlin, Mecklemburg Lakes to Rostock and then along the coast to Denmark.

Denmark EuroVelo

As for the part through Denmark, two EuroVelo routes are available: EuroVelo 12 along the North Sea coast (signposted) and EuroVelo 3 through the middle of Denmark.

I haven't cycled there myself yet but I'm planning to follow them more or less in July on my way to Norway.

Thanks for the suggestions, I

Thanks for the suggestions, I am also considering both routes.

EuroVelo3 would be my initial choice, since it is a bit shorter, however EuroVelo12 seems to be more scenic and in theory I would expect more camping sites to pick from at seaside.

I think I might prepare two variants and decide when approaching Denmark, depending on my timing, tempo, weather, etc.
