Ferries from Greece to Turkey in Winter

Hello dear all!

Me and my partner Malikah are currently cycling from Germany to Taiwan. We are now in Albania and want to cross from Greece to Turkey somehow around January. We thought about cycling to Athens, taking a ferry from there to a greek island (crete, kos, rhodes, chios, whereever) and from there find another ferry to the turkish mainland (izmir, bodrum, cesme, fethiye, whereever). However i find very little connections if all. The only connection i found so far for January, was from Chios to Cesme for 33€ per person, wich seems kind of expensive for a 10km ferry ride?! I got similar prices from Athens to Crete wich is like 500km. Is this normal for international ferries? Does anyone know more about this area and the ferry connections there, especially in Winter? We appreciate any help. Thanks a lot and happy cycling!

Cheers, Ruben

Hi Ruben,

Hi Ruben,

We cycled from Albania to Athens and got a ferry in the last week from Pireaus to Chios (overnight), then onto Cesme (after a couple hour's wait in the port). It was 41.50€ each from Pireaus to Chios, and about 20€ each for the Chios to Cesme route. We thought the second leg was quite expensive, but is probably due to crossing through passport control and customs, etc.

Hope this helps!

Tank you,

Tank you,

Yes this experience helps a lot. We still didn't decide for a Route, but the picture becomes more and more clear ;)

You also have the possibility

You also have the possibility to take a ferry between Rhodos and Marmaris, we did it last year on the 1st of january. Can't remember the price thouh, but was quite expansive compared to the distance. However it was on a fast catamaran.

Hey Jimmy,

Hey Jimmy,

Yes, actually we are thinking now to go over Rhodos. Not because its the cheapest or fastest route, but because we have a friend there. However the only ferry i could find on the website was to marmaris, and indeed, is not cheap (40€). The website of the ferry company lists fethiye and bodrum as destinations from Rhodos but if i search for specific connections on a certain date i get no results. So i wonder if anyone took the ferrys between Rhodos-Fethiye or Rhodos-Bodrum before, possibly in January/February?And if they are cheaper?
But we will ask around when we will be in Rhodos and maybe get better information when we are on the spot. Worst case we take the ferry to Marmaris and pay the price...

best, Ruben

Help

Hey ruben !!

We have the same problem but in October. We will arrive in Athens in a few days and we planned to go to the cyclades island and then Turkey. We wanted to go to Rhodes > marmaris or fethiye or bodrum. Did you find a solution ?? I have seen like you that the ferries are expensive. But the big problem is : did they accepts bikes ?? Because it is write catamaran, only passengers ...

Thanks a lot ;)
