Hi All,
I've started planning a tour of Slovakia in May/June this year. I'd be very grateful for any tips for great places to visit; good, free camping; scenic routes, etc.
Also, has anyone spent around a month touring Slovakia? I'm unsure whether it will be too long a period in a small country.
I'll be flying in to Vienna airport from Faro, Portugal, so I'd be happy to hear from any WS hosts who could put me up for a night close to the airport.
All advice and tips welcome.

I can not answer your questions because I have not yet toured Slovakia. However, we will be touring Central Europe this summer, from Frankfurt to Prague to Vienna to Budapest. This will take us through part of Slovakia - particularly Bratislava. I am interested in you tour and any English language maps you find.

Hi Phyl. I've downloaded the Komoot app onto my tablet as a backup. The reviews are excellent, and the maps can be used offline. The downside is that you have to be online to plan and save a route. In the meantime I'll be looking for some paper maps.

Probably a bit long unless you plan lots of walking too (Tatra's are worthwhile). I cycled through the east from Poland to Hungary in 2015 (2 days?) and by train further west about a week the year before - but memory fades. It is worth including Poland (maybe as far as Zamosc) and of course Czech as well. Both times I was staying in B&Bs/hotels. The border areas are often interesting. Krakow is good if you have not been.

I spent about 3 weeks in Slovakia last summer and plan to pass through again this summer in early July. There's plenty to see but I would also recommend taking a break in the Tatras for a little hiking. These mountains are beautiful and highly accessible from the north and the south. Busses, and in some places, electric trams connect valley trailheads with large towns such as Poprad and Zakopane (Poland). It's very easy to ride a bus to a trailhead, hike all day, and catch a bus back to a nice unfiltered beer.
If you want to visit some cool cities, Brno in CZ, Krakow in Poland, and Budapest are worthwhile and relatively close to the borders of Slovakia. The city of Banská Štiavnica is off the beaten path but very beautiful and worth the climb. Getting there will pull you into the Low Tatras too; lots of places to wild camp near clean water.
I have friends in Poland who routinely cycle in the southeast corner of Poland, near the Slovak border. They tell me there are extensive greenways in that forest.

My view about your travel is that yours is a little bit different like mine .
To find good accomodations and good cycling roads, I plan all my stages and I know them in advance.

Yes, we do have different views on travel, and both have their positives and negatives. What is best is down to individual preference. Planning everything in advance does not suit me, and takes away from the adventure aspect that I seek. I have listed a few places that I want to visit, and I either wild camp or stay with warmshowers hosts. If the end of the day comes and I haven't found anywhere suitable to stay or camp, I will sleep next my bike. This way I have met so many wonderful people and have had so many great experiences, even people have taken me to their house to camp in their gardens.

When I plan my tour, I do usually a lot of km per day and for me I have to know where I will sleep because I haven't any tent with me.
In Germany, I use a similar platform as this one, it's name is "dachgeber" and I met always nice people. They are waiting for me and spent time with me. It's not so popular but there is more than 3000 members, everywhere in Germany.
If you go to Komárno, I can give you the adress of a friend, who is guide for his area. You can also go to the thermal bth there.
