Recomendations for 1 month tour in Central America?

Hey there fellow bike-tourists! Can anyone recommend what they think is the best central american country to bike tour? My husband and I have about a month this summer and we would love to get your advice on picking a place!
Thanks!

Guatemala

Guatemala was one of our favourites of our whole trip from Alaska to Patagonia.
Beautiful, varied, not as hot as the others as it's much higher, so much to see and do.
Especially wonderful are the roads in the 'northwest' between Xela (Quetzaltenango) and Copan. The Fuentes Georginas near Xela are one of the coolest hot springs anywhere we've seen.
The roads are pretty steep in places, so you want to have some decent fitness.
Enjoy!

Thank you!

Thank you Anna! You sold me on hot springs! The more I hear and read about Guatemala, the more I am convinced that we should tour there (and possibly Honduras and Nicaragua too). These are some great tips - I will be sure to check them out.
Cheers!

Guatemala

I was cycling from Cancun to Venezuela in 2010and I went through all Central America countries except Salvador. And of course I vote for Guatemala as well. The worst was Costa Rica cause of insane traffic and very bad roads off Panamericana. Panama has basically one main road, pretty boring. Nicaragua was ok and very cheap, Honduras OK. Don't miss Tikal in Guatemala. Cheers!

Durango

Hey T & J,

Looking to plan a bike tour out of the US. Did you take your Guatemala trip?

Also, my daughter and I are headed to Durango 6/13-17. Planning on doing some riding, hiking, running and exploring.

Is there a shop that you would recommend for bike rentals?
Can you suggest two signature road rides and two signature dirt rides?
Can you suggest other things to do/see in the short time we have?
Can you suggest an inexpensive place to stay in the area?
Thanks!

Antigua Bicycle Co-Op (Guatemala)

If you are still planning on coming through Guatemala I wanted to let you know that I've just opened a small bike co-op / bike shop in Antigua, Guatemala. Antigua is a beautiful colonial town that you should see if you are touring in Guatemala. Please stop through we love to meet people on tour!

Of course we also welcome you to stay in our our house which is just outside of Antigua proper.

Bienvenidos,
