I'm a 26-year-old female cyclist planning to bike down the pacific coast from Portland to San Fran and Big Sur, camping and cooking most of the way in parks along the coast. It's supposed to be one of the most beautiful routes and I feel like biking is the right way to slow down, enjoy the outdoors, and feel your body moving. I have no bike touring experience but I cycle/hike/camp and know what to bring. Please join me for this epic adventure! My buddy backed out for a good reason...but I am still determined to do it, even if alone! (what do you think about female solo riders i feel like i need some encouragement...)

pacific coast bike tour leaving late sept
Hi Milavera,
Cyclist who travel Hwy 1 to Monterey, Ca. , Veterans Memorial park is nice for camping which large groups of cyclist visit: Jefferson St. is a steep road and use the back way if you have time, cheaper as group drive in as they charge by person on foot or bike without reservations.

Bus operate in summer from Big Sur State park to Carmel city ( south of Monterey )
In Big Sur State park last camp site views the trail from the Forest Service parking ( just south) Which goes to the Hot springs on a river 10 miles / 20 round trip/ forest service map is helpful. Good luck on your ride, I am visiting in Santa Cruz, Ca.and travel: [email protected] 9/ 11/2012
I live in Santa Cruz and recently met a young British women who was cycling from BC to San Diego. She had a great tour although her bike was stolen in Saettle. She was in her mid 20s. It's a great route. Come see us if you make the tour.

I ran into two separate solo women riders last year on a cross-country. Both of them told me that they never felt threatened anywhere. So don't even hesitate to do it, but the real vistas get better as you proceed south. I drove the PCH just last month from Carmel, Ca. to San Luis Obispo and vowed to bicycle tour it soon. The roadway gets narrow in spots but the traffic is minimal with turnouts and campgrounds all along the way. And I saw at least a dozen solo riders so you won't be alone.
I wish you the best, with envy pouring out my eyeballs.
Milavera you will be fine on your own there are plenty of other bikers out this time of the year and everyone is pretty friendly. I am actually doing the coast starting next week. I am flying into Portland late this Sunday night and taking the bus to Tillamook on Monday morning. It should take me roughly 15 days to get back to LA just in time for my fall semester to start. I have done this ride before but it was in 2009 during December one of the wettest years in a long time so I look forward to sunshine and tailwinds this time around. My most important advice would be to pack light and be flexible on your mileage as you never know what lies ahead each day. The hiker biker sites in Oregon and Northern California are great and have showers, not bad for $5 a night. If you need any advice or help planning let me know I am more than happy to help. Best of luck, Tyler
Hi Milavera,
I am a 24 year of age and I too will be biking the Pacific Coast leaving on September 21st from Puyallup WA. I plan on being down in Portland on the 23rd. You should not be worried about this bike trip. I do recommend that you keep your load under 30lbs preferably 25lbs. There is a lot of water and food along the way and you should not have to worry to much about biking solo. I will be biking solo myself as my friend backed out a few days ago due to an employment opportunity. I look forward to maybe meeting up with you for a day of cycling! There are tons of cyclists along the way and you will meet some pretty cool and even interesting people!

Hey, don't know if you're still doing this trip but I'm in the same boat as you. Currently in San Francisco and heading to LA from here, then possibly west to TX. I'm open to new routes and have some interest in going to Mexico for the holidays/"end of the world" celebration, if I can catch a rideshare.
Anyway, even if you don't need a travel partner, enjoy it and kick ass. So far ive only met good people on the PCH and there need to be more female riders out there.
I am a female cyclist, determined to start cycling from Mexico heading south from May 2013, I have yet to find any recruits to join me. All of your posts are inspiring and encouraging! Gook luck and I would be really keen to hear how you are getting on.

Hi, my name is Vanessa, I'm 30 and am biking the route in late September as well! My last day of work is Sept 26th and I plan to leave from Vancouver Canada the next day, headed South. It would take me about 7-10 days to get to Portland.
I am super easy going and am basically doing the ride alone. I plan to go all the way to to Mexico border but would join you from Portland to San Fran for sure!
I'm not on warm showers very often, so maybe email me if you want to plan something!!

Good luck, I hope we can do some biking together!

I'm starting in Reno and plan to arrive at the coast just a daytrip north from SF. Planing to do about 80-100km per day. Im not yet sure about the route from Reno to SF though. After SF I plan to take the PCH to LA.
