Hey there, I'm in Portland on my way to the coast as quickly and easily as possible....does anyone know this route well? I am en route to california, trying to be timely. I believe my options are the 30 (takes me further north but might be flatter) or the 26 (looks hilly!). This is my first bike tour and although I'v covered some mountainous distances I am by no means an athlete!!
Any advice or encouragement greatly appreciated!
Cheers,
Maureen

Have a good way.

Hi Maureen,
I can only comment on Hwy 26.
Last August we were on it. It is a hilly route overall with some steep climbs. There is a fair amount of traffic and people drive fast on it. The shoulder is poor much of the distance too. On the positive side it is a scenic route.
Best of luck on your tour!
Kevin
Hey Sebastian and Kevin,
Thank you for sharing your experiences and knowledge! I ended up taking the Nastuuca River route as seen on this map.

Route number 3.
Despite one big climb over the water reservoir it was a nice calm ride along back roads with little traffic. Hope this helps the next person!
Cheers,
Maureen
