Solved: Visa, ESTA & other issues entering & leaving the US

Hello,

we're travelling from belgium to uruguay & brazil then to detroit and cycle to montréal. I was told i could apply via ESTA and wouldn't need a VISA, but i've just read this on the ESTA website:

"You are eligible to apply for admission under the Visa Waiver Program (VWP) if you:

Intend to enter the United States for 90 days or less for business, pleasure or transit
Have a valid passport lawfully issued to you by a Visa Waiver Program country
Have authorization to travel via the Electronic System for Travel Authorization
Arrive via a Visa Waiver Program signatory carrier
Have a return or onward ticket
Travel may not terminate in contiguous territory or adjacent islands unless the traveler is a resident of one of those areas"

+ They ask for an address where we'll be residing.

Anyone any thoughts on cycling in the US and transiting to Canada?

Small detail, we're leaving in 1 month, so getting a visa is pretty hard now. Don't know if i can apply for one and leave before getting it approved!

Thanks!

Jonathan

Case solved. I've jsut had the US embassy on the phone (they charge 15 €/call)
The fact that we have a ticket back from montréal to brussels, our trip is considererd "round trip". So that seems to be solved. I'll apply for ESTA, in case anything new comes up i'l post it here.

US visa stuff

Glad your non-problem was solved.

Hosted a Brit not long ago. He flew into Houston with no return plane ticket, intending to stay in US as long as permitted, 90 days on waiver. The official in charge of such matters advised him to immediately book a flight to the UK, print the proof, then cancel the next day. Guess the border guard was in a good mood that day.

Learned later that the Brit, a very personable, well traveled fellow, exited the US for Canada at the end of his 90 days, and was trying to figure out how to get a visa so he could return. Don't think it happened.
