Am I missing something or can you not check messages on the android app? Its kinda annoying to hafta do it on the not-hella-mobile-friendly website on my phone. It just has a check messages on site option...I guess I thought the app would make that kinda thing easier to do without a computer.

That is a development goal, as is a mobile friendly redesign of the site - I'm not sure which will come first. I guess it was envisioned that people would receive email notifications and reply through their respective mobile email clients.
