tool to search for motels

We badly need something as good as the warmshowers host-searching methods, to look for motels! And for contacting them! I have been typing search terms like 'baker oregon lodging' into google, and I get all sorts of garbage that's very tedious to look through. Pictures of beds? Motels have beds. It comes with the territory. Who needs pictures? What's the use of motels 'near' where you want when 'near' is from a car's perspective? And don't get me started on Expedia-- It is designed to put you in a total panic about motels filling up fast; it doesn't show you the cheap ones and it charges you a lot for nothing.
It's a big job. Ideas anyone?
