My partner and I will be flying to Portugal in March 2017 to begin a cycling tour through Europe and further. We have been doing a lot of research and planning, and we have a few questions and I was hoping someone might have some advice!
1) Will the customs official give us any trouble because we don't have proof of a return ticket?
2) I think we can get across the Shengen zone before our 90 day visa runs out, but we'd rather not feel rushed. Any advice for cycle tourists with respect to the Shengen visa restrictions would be appreciated. In particular, if we were to apply for a long-stay visa in Portugal, Spain, France, or Germany, would our long-stay visa end when we left that country to continue cycling?
3) Any recommendations for bike shops in Portugal who can help us re-assemble our bicycles?
Thanks in advance!
Tim & Steve
Hi!
I am assuming:
a) you are flying from USA.
b) you are landing in Lisbon.
c) you are bringing the bikes in boxes
Can't really help on the first two questions as I am a Portuguese national and have only bike travelled within Shenghen zone
In Lisbon, I know of hosts that would help you reassemble your bikes, but if you are looking for a shop.

This is close to the airport and has great service.
A little farther and a little harder to reach by public transportation with a bike box:
