Road touring from Charlotte, NC to Atlanta, GA via Asheville/Smoky Mountains

Seeking suggestions, routes, and wisdom for a ride from Charlotte to Atlanta.

Hey everybody!

I have five days to get between Charlotte and Atlanta. Any suggestions for routes to try? Routes to avoid?

Looking to average 100-120 km/day, which would let me ride into the smoky mountains via Asheville and ride back down to Clemson for a train or bus to Atlanta. I've been thinking something like this: https://www.strava.com/routes/11993972

I'm open to renting a car/catching a train to start or finish the journey (for example, is it nicer to ride to Chattanooga or Knoxville and drive to Atlanta?).

More about me: I'm taking some time off between work meetings. I live in California and haven't seen this part of the world before. I am particularly interested in the smoky mountains.
