Hi there cyclists riding through Mexico... if you are thinking of biking across Chiapas State and down to Palenque via Ocosingo, please reconsider:
1. Either take public buses, they'll carry your bike and in 2 hours you'll be in Ocosingo for barely 100 pesos, or
2. If you insist in riding those 100Kms, try letting someone know your whereabouts... hopefully someone in San Cristóbal de las Casas, Oxchuc and/or Ocosingo.
Why? Two weeks ago two bike tourers were found killed and thrown like garbage down a cliff en-route to Ocosingo. (More info in Spanish here: http://ciclonauta.net/2018/05/11/requiem-por-2-suenos/)
I don't mean to be a scaremonger, but in all honesty, impunity here in Mexico is something worthy of soap operas, and we don't want to see more people suffering.
Get in touch with me if you're in San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas... I'll fill you in with more info if you need some.
Pedal safe!

Yes, one was a member of WS, I believe.
It needs to be said that the response from the community in the town nearby was really impressive. Hopefully those responsible are brought to justice.

You're totally right, there were lots of people active in making this heinous crime visible... yet, impunity is rampant in this country, and we have to watch out for each other as much as we can :-)
