Emails sent from hosts didn't reach me

Dear Warmshowers,

While trying to contact hosts in Germany it appeared, after contacting them by whatsapp (because we did not receive any response yet), that they already replied by email. Those messages by email unfortunately never reached us.

If required I could provide you with the user-id's that could not reply by email.

In the past sometimes

In the past sometimes requests from guests were not forworded to my email-account. Sometimes it worked, sometimes not. And: no, my spamfilter didn't "eat" them ...

Last week I had the same problem with a potential guest Michiel described.

... and no notifications about hosting requests

Today I got a note that someone asked for a stay. So I logged in to answer, and found three other outdated requests, where we never got a note (and no, even not in the JUNK folder). A pity, such opportunities wasted, as we not get much requests at all

GDPR related?

I logged in last week to find that I had no less than 8 unanswered guest requests, that have not been sent through by mail (not in spamfilter either).
It might be coincidence, but the last request that came through was 3 days before the GDPR was put into force. My guess was that I did not consent on warmshowers sending me mails, but I could not find anything related in the settings.
Maybe I am on the wrong path here, but it's the best idea I have.

I have set myself to "not available for hosting" because of this

edit: on saving this very post a message pops up "failed to send email. post saved succesfully". Haha.

Logged in today and had 3

Logged in today and had 3 messages that never generated an email to me.  They were not in my spam folder.

Hi, sorry for the late reply - holidays.
However, it seems the problem was solved for me, I got emails with notifications about this very thread from 2018-07-27 02:52 MEST onwards, and also notifications about hosting requests since then.

If you fixed that, thanks a lot!

I just got a request today

I just got a request today from a WS member through Trustroots. The cyclist was contacting me on that network since apparently no requests sent over WS were getting any response whatsoever from potential hosts. There does seem to be a serious problem with the message system, why is no action being taken?

Priorities

Yes, it should be top priority to investigate such reports. The new CEO does not seem to be a software person herself, but she should be on top of this.

I did get this week's request in my email, but when I logged in on the web site on my android mobile, there was no sign of it. And I could not find the messages at all. So I used the app to reply. The app is not officially supported anymore, but proved to be very useful for quick and easy communication. It gives notifications, I cannot understand why WS would abandon it.

I think this problem has either resurfaced, or is continuing. I've sent requests which have been received by the WS Host, but their response has not reached me. I confirmed with them over WhatsApp.

Guest experience

as Guests recently, we usually only contacted potential Hosts via the ( un-supported ) App AND / OR via text message - usually both . When Hosts listed *no* mobile telephone number, we usuallly didn't bother to Request

This acheived an " offer" about 75 % of the time, around once per week  ., which sems like a relatively good strike rate, judging from this Forum ! It was of course, a time intensive process to find even those "likely" Hosts, amid the mountain of data garbage that the site provides to a potentail Guest/traveller.

My own Profile says : " text is best" [ for both guest and Host].

Same problem

I logged in yesterday as I got an email from someone asking to be hosted. After responding via the website I noticed that I had three messages that I had never been notified about. As everyone else above has noted I having been using the same email the whole time so something in the notification system seems to have gone wrong. In case this is still being looked at and it helps with debugging the dates of the three messages I was never notified of were as follows:

July 26th 2018
Aug 18th 2018
Aug 28th 2018

I am afraid that nobody is doing any debugging and that nobody is looking into this. Or did anybody ask you for more details in a private message? I would be surprised, but I would love to hear that I was wrong.

Same problem

September 19th, same problem. Request sent, host did not receive any email notification, good thing I texted them afterwards.

Hope this gets fixed very soon. These unreliable messages are really annoying to say the least. This should be the core function of the Warm Showers website, getting people in contact with each other. Thank you for investigating and fixing this!

Addressing requests not received by email

Hi all, if you continue to notice that requests are posted but you did not recieve an email notification - please make sure to use the contact us form and report the issue.  That allows us to open a help desk ticket and walk you through what may be happening and how to solve the issue.

Guests mails do not reach me - 1st Okt 2018

Dear Warmshowers,

since 30.09.2018 mails do not get througt in Germany. Spam Filter was checked. We tested it with two accounts - Requests are only to be seen on the webpage and android app.

Please repair.

the same!

28/10 and 29/10 I had requests.
I answered those cylcers as usually, responding directly from email (I'm using Gmail) And ahd no answer...
answered again by email and asked If they got lost...
no answer

got pissed off.
finally one of them answered me "already apssed your home" ...
great... I guessed...

I think he never had my 2 first emails...
If I look in my gmail,  I see all messages
If I look inside Warmshower website, I don't see mY 2 first answers...

It's really BAD!
they slepped outside, in coldness... whil I was pissed off because for me I accepted, and they never come, nor sent a message to apologize
(and for cause...)

I had a major communication

I had a major communication problem recently due to the email response.

It turned out that replying to a Warmshowers message from my email account did not work and my host received none of my communication after the original message from the Warmshowers website.

Only after a few days and once my suspicions were raised by this forum post, I logged into Warmshowers and sent a message directly with my phone number and got a reply.

My host has says she did not receive communication from other cyclists after their initial message and I wonder if this could be the same issue.

Please fix ASAP or at least send a site-wide message warning people to reply directly from the Warmshowers website.
