Ugine in the Alps

I am looking for a piece of grass to put two smallish tents on in early August for a night, as close to Ugine as possible. Any offers considered,

Failing that, can I wild camp up the Gorge d'Arly? Anyone any experience?

Cheers

Martyn

Hi Martyn,

Hi Martyn,

I'd like to help more as I am originally from that area but can't think of any good place to wild camp around Ugine. It's quite residential and industrial. The town parks might not be a good bet as they are a lot of youngsters drinking there at night. The Gorge d'Arly is mainly a narrow mountain road and I think you'd struggle to find a place to pitch 2 tents. There are some kind of bush areas nearish the cycleway to Annecy but I'd think it would be too dense to find a camp.

There are a lot of farmers/field owners in the area, they can seem a bit cold but if you prepared a few sentences in french about your trip and asking if you could pitch your tent to them that might be your best bet.

Failing that there is an official campsite called the "Champ Tillet" near Marlens.
