WARSAW BIKE BOX - HELP!

Hello,

I am traveling to Lyon, France this Friday June 21st and am in need of a cardboard bike box/case. I just discovered that all bike shops are going to be closed Thursday and likely Friday morning (my flight is at 13:20 out of Chopin) and I need some help!

Is there anyone in Warsaw that can help me out?!? Or any suggestions on a DIY case given that I will have to check my bike with the airline, WizzAir?

Warmest regards, Luke

Hi Luke,

Hi Luke,
indeed, this may be a challenge this week.
You can check Decathlon - they used to open between 9 and 10. Or castorama/Obi/Leroy (opening even earlier) to get some duct tape and cardboard.
Few years ago I was travelling with 3 bicycles with AlItalia from Warsaw and we have just wrapped them with protective foil that is used on airports to protect luggage (after turning pedals and handlebar, etc). They were satisfied. And bicycles have not been hurt. But I can not guarantee that wizzair accepts such a solution. Perhaps it would be wise to call them in advance (btw such stretch foil can be cheapily found in castorama)
But perhaps someone has such a spare box - all mine have been already demaged, unfortunately.
Good luck!

Thank you, Darek! You are

Thank you, Darek! You are right, Decathalon or Castorama may be the best solution Friday morning. Here is WizzAir's bike policy:

Rules:
” Bicycles can only be accepted for carriage if they are packed in bicycle travel case, or in nylon sacks, the wheels and pedals are removed and the handlebars turned parallel. They may also be accepted if packed in cardboard provided the tyres are deflated.”

No size restrictions and I'm flying with a carbon fiber road bike, so ideally, I'd have as much protection as possible. My mistake for not remembering this holiday and figuring out a solution earlier.

If anyone has a cardboard box or a traveling case they could spare for one week, I'd be forever indebited. I have a 5 day tour around the Rhone/Alpes that heading to.

Thank you again!

Hi Daren,

Hi Daren,

I did manage and Decathlon was a success. They were extremely helpful in helping me out with a box and packing materials. And myself and my bike arrived safely in Lyon

The only thing to note for future travels is that they only have full size bike boxes. I’m not certain the exact dimensions but they are boxes that you do not take either wheel off. This may pose a problem for some airlines with size dimensions restrictions and it does mean a much larger bike to transport.

Thank you again and allez!
