EV6 Mulhouse to Saint-Nazaire - which bits to skip?

Three months since starting the EV6 at Constanta we're still running behind!

We have four weeks to get from Mulhouse to Saint-Nazaire and like to travel slow and stop when we find nice places or people.

So ... if we were to skip 25% - 50% of the route, which bits do you think are unmissable and should definitely not be missed - or which bits aren't so stunning that they could be missed?

This may be a bit late to be useful for you, but it may be of interest to others.  It would save one day at least , if youw ere to skip Mulhouse. Instead go straight from Basel through Altkirch to Dannemare where you rejoin the canal side rail towards Besancon.  THe D463 would shorten that section even more if you are willing to be on the road. I also took a shortcut in France once, missing out Orleans, but aiming for Chambord (I love tht chateau and surrounding area) by utting across on the D923 - veering into other smaller countryside roads. Definitely don't miss out the Loire valley section west of Orleans.. If you need to cut more out, look at using the train - I once did that between Chalon sur Seine and Orleans,, when I was touring with a couple of friends who were struggling with the distances.
