Cycling Vancouver to Squamish/Whistler (or vice versa) - Ignore Google Maps!

For at least the 2nd year in a row, people cycling between Vancouver and Squamish/Whistler are being routed by Google maps to ride up to Cypress Provincial Park and then along a rugged HIKING trail instead of along Highway 99, aka The Sea to Sky Highway. This is WRONG. Highway 99/The Sea to Sky Highway is the ONLY route from Vancouver to Squamish and then onto Whistler which is another 50km north. Cycling up to Cypress Provincial Park is an approximate 12 km mountain climb that dead ends onto a beautiful, but rugged, 29km hiking trail as I said earlier. Even pushing a loaded bike would not be possible. I'm not sure why this is Google's suggested route, but recreational cyclists regularly ride on the highway, I used to commute on a stretch of it, and this is the route cycle tourists use, i.e it's a legit cycling road. It is a highway, but there is a shoulder almost the entire way. And it's a beautiful, but hilly ride on a good day.
