I am going to Venice this week and as I understand it you can't take bicycles into the historic center. I was thinking about locking up in the Bicipark in Mestre and was wondering if anyone has ever used this place and could comment on the facilities security and type of lock that would be sufficient (save taking a big D lock across the alps)
Cheers guys.

Venice is not what I would call a bicycle town. It is an awesome place to kayak! If you'd like to kayak while you are there, let me know and I will dig of my rental info from when I was there. It's a great way to see the city, and thrilling dodging all the water traffic!
Yeah who i'm staying with is staying in the center and they have a spare kayak and she says its boss too. I just need to find somewhere secure I can lock my bicycle up for a few days.
You can cycle on the bridge leading to Venice. There is a bike parking which is not protected when you arrive in town. Some bikes are parked outside the train station, they also might have a place to store bikes inside.
You can push your bike in town, if you can avoid the bridges with steps... The crowd is always in the main streets.
