Hey everyone,

I am planning on cycling from the Ferry port in Cherbourg to Paris this summer and I'm trying to plan my route. I know there is a cycle path along la Seine (although adds a lot of kms to the total distance). Unsure if worth taking that route, so if anyone has done something like this before please share advice!

Thanks :)

Aisling,

Not done that route myself other than Cherbourg to Caen. There is a stinker of a hill exiting Cherbourg directly S'wards so best to head east and follow coast south. There is an excellent Facebook site Cycling in France where, if you join and post a request there, you should get a lot more responses. You may also know that there are usually excellent route details on the Voie Vertes of France at: https://www.francevelotourisme.com/conseils/preparer-voyage-velo/voie-verte. This site gives a more detailed offer of cycle routes than the Eurovelo site, which covers basically the major routes across Europe, though the VV site included these also.  Bonne chance!

Like Nancy, I have also never taken your proposed route.  However out of curiosity I looked it over.  I'm guessing you are looking at EV4 to Honfleur then switching to the V33 into Paris.  This works out to about 675km (14 days @ 50k/day or 9 days @ 75/day)  As Nancy mentioned, I noticed the southern EV4 has a long hill to climb at the beginning.  It is shorter then the Eastern EV4 option...however only by about 22 km.  More importantly though is the southern option has very few paved roads.  So I would also stick to following the more scenic coast as well.  As for the V33 along the Seine River there are plenty of short cuts that would help straighten out that twisty river.

Hope it works out,

Cheers

Brian
